Frequently Asked Questions

Are there deadlines for Proposals?

Yes. Deadlines for Proposals are 11:59pm February 1 and August 1 of every year. Only online applications will be accepted. If awarded, grant start dates are: May 1 and November 1.

What types of grants does MMF fund?

MMF funds programs/projects, capacity building, and general operations. For further descriptions and eligibility information, see our What We Fund page.

Where do I access documents that are required to be uploaded to an online grant application?

When mentioned in the application, the name of any required document should have a link to that same document. If the link does not work, please notify the Marillac Mission Fund office at 314-733-6500.

Some sample documents may be found on our Resources page and in our MMF Users Guide.

What is the application review process?

An Application Review Committee reviews all proposals and selects those proposals which will receive a full review by staff. Fund staff will prepare summaries and make funding recommendations. The full Executive Council makes the final decision on funding recommendations.  Decisions on all proposals will be communicated by mail within two weeks following the Executive Council meeting, which are typically at the end of April and October. If funded, the grant agreement must be signed by the Executive Director or authorized representative of the approved agency and returned to the Fund before a check can be issued.

How do I download, print or view my submitted grant application?

To view, copy and/or print your submitted grant application:

  1. Log on to the MMF Online Grant Management System
  2. Click on "View Application"
  3. Click on the button "Application Packet" located at the top right-hand side of the page. A new tab will appear, asking if you want to open the application or save it:

                a) Open the application to view the questions and your answers.

                b) To print the application, click Open, then click File, then click Print.

                c) To save a copy of your application click Open, then click Save As, then choose where you want to store the application in your files.

Is a final report required?

MMF requires that a final status report be submitted online within one month of the grant period end date. For example, for grant awards ending April 30, the status report is due May 31. Grantees will receive a reminder email prior to the deadline. MMF will not consider a new proposal from a previous grantee until the status report has been received and approved by the Fund. A sample of the final status report can be found on our Status Report page.

Can I call the Fund with any questions I have?

Fund staff encourages potential applicants to call the office at (314) 733-6500 to discuss proposal ideas. Fund staff can offer advice regarding the appropriateness of a project and the amount requested, and discuss the information required in a full proposal. The office is typically open weekdays from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. You may also schedule a virtual appointment with one of our staff.

Do you award grants to individuals?

MMF cannot provide any funding to individuals. Grants are only awarded to organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation and in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service.

Can we apply for more than one grant per cycle?

If you are eligible for a capacity building grant, then you can submit applications for a responsive and a capacity building grant in the same cycle.

Does MMF make multi-year grants?

Generally, grant awards will be for one year only. The Fund may consider three-year grants. Three year grants are given by invitation only and based on the following: funds available, the MMF Grant Award Committee's interest in a focus area, and grantee history with the Fund including its proven effectiveness and ability to demonstrate impact. Tracking and reporting requirements will increase with each subsequent year of funding. Each year, the award amount will decrease to encourage the organization to seek other funding and increase the likelihood that the project will continue after the funding period ends.

Is there a minimum/maximum amount for a grant request?

Responsive Grants range between $5,000 and $50,000.

How and when will we receive payment?

Upon receipt of the signed grant agreement and completed ACH form, it takes up to two weeks to process payment (typically via ACH).   Marillac Mission Fund is a program of Ascension, who uses The Resource Group to confirm suppliers/vendors.  This process includes a phone call and/or email to confirm account information before the payment can be requested.  The payment will come from Ascension, not Marillac Mission Fund.  You may receive an automated email with login access to the Ascension Supplier Portal, but you do not need to submit a payment request through this portal.
